A Note To My Daughters…And My Fairy God Daughters…And Their Friends…Et Al

Be yourself. No seriously, be yourself. Figure out who you are, what gives you joy, what makes you happy. For instance…

I love to sing. Now, I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. If you give me sheet music and a pail, then tell me to walk across the stage, I would trip and fall flat on my face. Which is to say, my singing voice is less-than-Streisand. But if I’m in a good mood, you just may find me singing in the hall, dancing to my own song. It gives me joy, and bonus! It makes others smile! So I do it.

I also love to bake. No, wait… let me be clear. The actual work makes me a nervous wreck, worried about how it’s all going to end up. But I love the results, (most of the time) of my baking and decorating efforts. To know that my mixing and piping and whipping and rolling and figuring out how to make the images in my head translate to edible “art” gives others a moment of happiness, well that brings me joy. So I’m going to keep doing it!

I also love to take pictures. Am I good at it? Some say yes, some are critical. But attempting to capture a moment in time, then manipulating the image to convey a mood = Wendy’s joy! So that’s what I do!

Also, girls, know what irks you. Know what you suck at. For example…

I suck at cleaning. Really. There is dust on my mirror. I still have a few Christmas decorations up. It’s February. FEBURARY! I constantly try and try again to defeat this part of Who I Am, but so far, no good. But it bothers me, so I keep trying.

The point is, know yourself. Own your joy. Own that which makes you beautiful and unique. And then give of yourself, by allowing yourself your joy! Enjoy the freedom of being YOU! Then give from your heart. THAT is called L O V E!

And whatever you do, do NOT let ANYONE steal that from you! If someone does not accept/respect your perspective, that is their smallness, their defense mechanism, their deflection of their own inability to accept who THEY are.

So dance, sing, twirl, paint, write, teach, create, study,
